Events at Pecos Monastery
July 17 – 24 “8-Day Directed Retreat with a Team of Directors”
Presented by Stephen Coffey, OSB and Patrick Cleary-Burns
August 2 - 16 “Iconography School”
Presented by Michael Moran CP, Fr Anthony Salzman and Jacquelin Nelson
No previous experience is needed for this two-week course. Come and join our school for a unique study and practical application of theology behind icons. Participants will also develop their spiritual and artistic skills in “praying icons.” An icon in itself is a prayer rendered in paint and as the iconographer “prays” an icon he or she actually “prays” it with a paintbrush.
August 21 – 23 “Introduction to Desert Spirituality: The Contemplative Charismatics of the East”
Presented by Clyde Glandon DMin
For 16 centuries the spirituality of the Eastern Church has been centered on the “Prayer of the Heart” or the “Jesus Prayer.” This school of Christian Prayer is both contemplative and charismatic and compares with the classic and contemporary contemplative prayer in the West. During this weekend, participants will be invited to immerse themselves in this prayer form in the context of the Eucharist, Divine Office, lectio, and one’s prayer times. “Stand before God with the mind in the heart.” – Theophan “The intellect then becomes pregnant through the energy of the Holy Spirit and overflows with a spring of love and joy.” – Diodochos of Photike
